Senior Judges -- the backbone of the federal judiciary

This "Third Branch" article provides some stats to support something that we already know in the WDNY -- that senior judges are the workhorses of the federal judiciary. Admittedly, as a former Judge Elfvin clerk, I am a bit biased. Judge Elfvin and his big gavel are pictured at the dinner celebrating his 30th year on the federal bench. Last year's BAEC "Jurist of the Year" could have retired at the same rate of pay in 1987. At 89, he still carries a full criminal and civil calendar.
